Eamigas attends 2019 Pre-Dumala Consultation with WV Campus Journalists
ILOILO CITY — To create a more inclusive media landscape in the Philippines, the Qapwa, piloted a multimedia literacy program called Pre-Dumala Consultation with select campus editors, advisers and local media practitioners at Latte Coffee Cafe, Boardwalk, Iloilo City, December 21.
John Mark Francisco, Editor-in-chief of the Eamigas Publication participated the said event to represent Aklan State University including various campus journalists coming from West Visayas State University, Central Philippine University, University of the Philippines Visayas, and University of San Augustin including media practitioners coming from the Daily Guardian, GMA Network, Manila Bulletin and guests from the Muslim community.
Angeli Monique Siladan, Founder of the Qapwa Philippines spearheaded the program including some of the alumni of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative or YSEALI.
Ms. Siladan emphasized the goal of the consultation which is first, to measure the knowledge of the student publications on Muslim and indigenous people (IP) narratives. Second, to assess the current strategies of the content creation and publishing of the publications. Lastly, explore ways in institutionalizing a new type of content.
The Pre-Dumala is a preparatory for their big event named Dumala in 2020.
“Dumala is a hiligaynon word meaning to lead the way,” Siladan explained.
Qapwa is a Muslim organization derived from the Filipino word “Kapwa” which is a concept of building a shared identity with the other as well as equality with the other.
The program is in partnership with the YSEALI, Facebook Philippines and the Office of the President’s Angat Buhay Youth.
The (YSEALI) is an organization that builds the leadership capabilities of youth in the region and promotes cross-border cooperation to solve regional and global challenges through major initiatives in student exchanges in the U.S, regional workshop in various field including leadership, business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, public management and more.
Nursing Batch 2022 holds 12th Capping, Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony

BANGA, AKLAN - The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) batch 2022 of Aklan State University (ASU) held its 12th Capping, Pinning and Candle Lighting ceremony at St. Joseph Spouse of Blessed Virgin Mary Banga, Aklan on Tuesday, December 17.
Fifty-eight second year nursing students received their caps and pins and lighted their candles during the event.
The solemn ceremony started with an eucharistic celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Arvic Jimenez and was followed by capping, pinning and candle lighting proper to recognize the efforts of second year student nurses.
Dr. Arlene Dela Cruz, Dean of School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), encouraged everyone to possess never-ending love to nursing profession as they will be embarking new chapter with bigger responsibilities in their clinical duties.
"The cap symbolizes purity of intention, hence it must be carried with dignity," Dr. Dela Cruz emphasized.
Dr. Dela Cruz also mentioned that the 58 nursing students are committed to carry the 10 qualities to become highly effective nurses in the future; high standards of professionalism, never-ending diligence, exceptional communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, attention to details, quick problem-solving abilities, action-oriented, empathetic disposition, solid stamina, and sense of humor.
She also challenged the student nurses to set a record of topnotchers and 100% passing percentage embodying the ideals of nursing in year 2022.
"Since 2005, we produced three topnotchers and 100% passers for three consecutive years. For the recent Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE), ASU posted a passing rate of 82.35%, above the national passing percentage... We hope for 100% passing rate, bonus of topnotchers in 2022," she added.
The capping for females and pinning for males was led by Mrs. Carol Joy Remaneses, RN, MHSS and was assisted by Mrs. Katherine Villaran, RN, MAN, Mrs. Fides Fosana, RN, and Mrs. Lilia Limoico, RN, MAN, clinical instructors. It was followed by the candle lighting which commemorates Florence Nightingale also known as "The Lady with the Lamp," the mother of modern nursing.
Prior to closing the ceremony, the student nurses recite the Nightingale Pledge and the Nurses' Prayer led by Deanne Chu and Allysa Reyes, respectively.
The ceremony was concluded with the singing of the batch song "Go Light Your World."
The capping, pinning, and lighting ceremony is an annual nursing school tradition that signifies recognition and initiation to partake in clinical settings.

ASU Banga welcomes AACCUP for Level 3 survey visit

To recognize the level of competencies on different academic programs of the school, the Aklan State University held its Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), Inc (AACCUP) accreditation Level 3 Survey visit of the 11 degree programs for a week long process.
The activity aims to meet the third level competency of the following programs; for College of Agriculture,Forestry and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) they have the Bachelor of Science in Forestry, Master in Animal Science, Master in Rural Development and Master in Crop Science, for College of Teacher Education(CTE) they have the Doctor of Philosophy major in Educational Management and Master in Education majors in English, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Social Science and Educational Management, for School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) they have Bachelor of Arts Major in English, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Biology and for the School of Management Science they have Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Accountancy.

The Local Task Force who worked hard for the accreditation activity was presented in front as well as the 25 accreditors headed by the overall coordinator Dr. Marietta B. Arinto who will undertake the accreditation process fair and objective.
"With AACCUP we are on our timeline for quality assurance, we achieve our targets not only in higher and advanced education but also in other major product outputs such as support's students, research services and special and technical advisory services and general administrative and support services." Dr. Relingo furthermore said.
AACCUP’s main function is the accreditation of curricular programs in the Philippines, particularly for state universities and colleges.
The assessment for ACP NC II was conducted from November 08 to 13, 2019. There were 50 TWSP Scholars and seven (7) walk-in candidates that underwent the assessment with Mr. Jacinto M. Osano, as the assessor. The six day assessment was composed of actual field performance and personal interview. Ten (10) candidates were assessed per day. Mr. Ray John Teodosio, a TESDA representative was present to oversee the assessment process. After a thorough evaluation of the participants, the 47 TWSP scholars and seven walk-in candidates were declared competent by the assessor. Three (3) candidates were not able to undergo assessment because they failed to show-up during the assessment and three are absent. A person who is a holder of ACP NC II qualification is competent and expert in performing nursery operations; plant crops; care and maintain crops; and carry-out harvest and post-harvest operations. Led by President Danilo E. Abayon, the team of TKS Project Head Dir. Rara Bidaure-Limoso Ramirez of UP Visayas was warmly received to the ASU Banga Campus as the two research universities jointly held the project management seminar for the traditional knowledge system research.
Dr. Abayon spoke during the event stressed the university’s commitment towards the long-standing collaborative initiatives between UP Visayas and Aklan State University. Director for Research, Dr. Michael T. Ibisate, also expressed his gratitude to UP Visayas for acknowledging the university’s capability to deliver the expected research output for the project.
Dir. Ramirez, in behalf of UP Visayas, has all but good words for Aklan State University being a long time partner of the premiere state university in collaborative projects such as the TKS Project.
The Board of Regents of the Aklan State University (ASU), Banga, Aklan, formally and publicly announces that the Search for Presidency of the Aklan State University is NOW OPEN.
President Danilo E. Abayon attended the launch of the book “From the Seas to the Mountain” (“Kadagatan tubtub Kabukidan”) last August 9, 2018 at the University of the Philippines Visayas Auditorium where he received a complimentary copy.
The launch was graced by no less than Senator Loren Legarda and DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu. Also present in the launch were Aklan Rep. Carlito S. Marquez, Hon. Jay E. Tejada, as the representative of Gov. Florencio T. Miraflores, and Prof. Juvy M. Casimero – the Provincial Coordinator of TKS Research Team for Aklan State University.
The book “From the Seas to the Mountain” (“Kadagatan tubtub Kabukidan”) was funded through the initiative of Senator Legarda through DENR Region 6 aimed at documenting traditional knowledge system in the islands of Panay and Guimaras. The project was a collaboration of five (5) SUCs in Region 6 (Aklan State University, Capiz State University, West Visayas State University, University of Antique, and Guimaras State College) with UP Visayas as the lead research university.
